In the mid 1800’s the Oregon Trail was the main route west for settlers, farmers, lumbermen and prospectors. The Trail started in the state of Missouri in about the center of the continental US and meandered NW for about 2000 miles to the Oregon Territory. Other trails branched off of the main trail, SW to Santa Fe and west to California and elsewhere.
Along the trail the pioneers made sourdough bread using their sourdough starter. This is the way bread was made before commercial yeast came along.
The starter has been active since being on the Oregon Trail in 1847.
We use the highest quality ingredients in our bread, starting with a high gluten, non bleached bread flour, alkaline water and the best ingredients we can find.
